модем - Intel 537 (R)
а драйвер - Compiled binary for Fedora Core 2 default configuration - [INTEL-537EP-2.60.80.0-FC2-UP.TGZ]

ИМХО - лучше найди драйвер для модема в .rpm пакете.
Возможно здесь:

Попробуй эти дрова поставить. ИМХО - должны работать.

6 steps to install
1. login as ROOT
2. extract the archive into a directory with "tar -zxvf <archivename>.tgz"
3. cd into the directory it created.
4. Type: make clean
5. Type: make 537
6. Type: make install
This will create a /dev/modem device file. This file is used as an interface to
modem by all applications: minicom, kpppd, efax, etc. Please configure the applications
to use /dev/modem if neccessary.

The installation script has been designed for the following distributions
release versions

Mandrake-release
SuSE-release
Redhat-release
Fedora Core 2 -release

Jay, вот это я і пробвал:)
make clean
make 537
всё нормально вроде, а после make install вот что:

rm -f /etc/hamregitry.bin
bash 537 inst
running Kernel 2.6.5-1.358custom
installing hamregistry, used for persistant storage
installing usrsound, a soft buzzer
installing 537 module
redhat 537_boot rc2.d, rc3.d and rc5.d scripts
starting module and utilities
537_inst: line 395: depmod: command not found
error loading Intel537
537_boot: line 55: rmmod: command not found

Llama, уже понял:), і попробвал, вот что получілось:
