RH is over ?

Hello!
Please tell me about your using of Red Hat Linux as a server.
RH was very popular two years ago.
Many people prefere Debian or Slackware. Please tell me why?

When I was an administrator of the "Intefax-West" Company, I used 5 servers. 3 of them are RH, 1 - FC2, 1 - ALTLinux (RH based). And I didn't find any troubles.

Because they are really FREE, not?
Maybe, because this distros don't depend on businness-motivated desicions, all decision-making mechanism is open, and no unwaited "surprises" possible.

Recently many corporations and companies (IBM, Hitachi, SONY, Brasil Telecom, various universities, etc..) choose Enterprise Linux (RHEL and SLES) to avoid a real headache with a various Linux distributions support on the production environment for a huge set of platforms.

Because they are really FREE, not?

FREE is not equal to "the BEST", for instance in the situation mentioned above it could be too dangerous and expensive to use a completely FREE distribution.

In this distributive is nothing from Mandrake now.

For me it's a funny and unmotivated reaction onto my previous post. No further comment.

The only thing I meant was that "freedom and open policy" is not the only motivation for choosing the server distros.

Sorry if I didn't make an exact point of this.

вобщем, пологаю товарищ выставит себе в браузерере дефолтный чарсет cp125 и будет далее писать кирилицей.

В случае если коммерческая поддержка от RedHat не нужна, ровно как не нужна установка всяческих Oracel/DB2 и т.п. RedHat не имеет никаких преимуществ перед Debian.
